The Project

This solar PV and battery storage installation was carried out at a coastal property in Anglesey, North Wales — just six weeks after the initial site survey. The homeowner wanted to reduce their reliance on the grid, lower their electricity bills, and store surplus generation for use in the evening and overnight.

The result is a complete renewable energy system that works seamlessly around the property’s existing roof layout without compromising its appearance or structural integrity.

The installation spans two slate roof elevations, with 16 panels split across both pitches to maximize generation output throughout the day. A slimline Anker Solix battery storage unit was installed discreetly at the rear of the property, paired with all associated electrical works including a new consumer unit, DC isolator, and surge protection device.

Working on a Slate Roof

Slate roofs require a specialized engineering approach compared to standard tiled roofs. Each bracket must be individually fitted beneath the slates using a purpose-made mounting system that preserves the watertight integrity of the roof without relying on mortar or sealant.

While it requires extra time and craft, the result is cleaner, longer-lasting, and eliminates any risk of cracking or lifting existing slate tiles.

Both roof elevations were surveyed and mapped out in detail prior to installation to ensure rail alignments, panel spacing, and cable routing were completely finalized in advance. This enabled our installation team to complete the entire job smoothly and efficiently.

The Battery Storage System

Alongside the 16-panel solar array, an Anker Solix battery storage unit was installed at the rear of the property. The Anker Solix is a slimline, wall-mounted battery unit featuring a live digital display that provides real-time visibility of solar generation, battery state of charge, and current household power consumption.

The battery captures excess daytime solar generation that would otherwise export to the grid, holding it for evening and overnight use when generation ceases. For a coastal property with high energy demand, battery storage dramatically increases self-consumption efficiency and long-term utility savings.

The Finished Installation

The completed system sits cleanly across both roof pitches. The black-frame monocrystalline panels sit low to the roofline with zero exposed wiring, while the Anker Solix battery remains hidden at the rear. The result is a clean, aesthetically appealing renewable setup that enhances the building without dominating its traditional coastal appearance.
